Times without number, I've heard the terms "419", "Jibiti","Smart guy", but I didn't know how it really worked until I experienced it myself and by God's grace, I'll never experience such again.
On that fateful Wednesday afternoon after ASUU strike, I was walking along the LUTH pathway and a not-too-young guy stopped me. I thought he wanted to ask for directions so I gave him audience.
He then started forming alliance by asking what church I attended. At last, he came up with his story that he was a postgraduate student and because of this they were being charged a lot and he was stranded. He said he needed money to go back to Benin.
I was confused as to what to do, so I decided to help him with a certain amount and he promised to return it when he gets back to Benin.
I used the GTBank 737 code to transfer three thousand naira to his account. Unfortunately this was the day GTBank was having global network issues, so he didn't get a credit alert to his account. We went to the bank together and the bank official confirmed that the money was still in my account. So I withdrew from the counter and gave it to me. He thanked me profusely and collected my account number promising to return the money as soon as possible.
To cut the story short on Thursday, I received a debit alert from the bank showing that they had transferred the three thousand I attempted to transfer to his account earlier. This made it double (six thousand naira) that I ended up giving to the man and till today, I've not seen both the man and my money.😥😥
