A huge superconducting cryogenic electromagnet and radio waves is used to create an energy field that can be transferred to a visual image.
It was once called Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging although, to avoid negative associations with the world the "Nuclear" was dropped.
MRI is known to be a painless procedure. It is also one of the safest medical procedure currently available because it doesn't involve exposing the body to ionizing radiation which are detrimental to human health.

However, it is important to note that
*All metallic objects should be removed from the body prior to the examination because MRI produces a strong magnetic field which attracts every metallic object in its surrounding.
*Patient with heart pacemaker implants are not allowed to carry out an MRI examination
*All metallic piercings, accessories, should be kept away
*All history of implants or surgery must be noted by the radiographer
It is imperative for the patient to remain still during the examination to avoid movement unsharpness. You know what happens when you try taking a picture of a moving object right. Yeah, you also want to avoid that on the film after the examination.

Unlike other imaging modalities MRI consumes time and so the patient is required to show up at least 2 hours before the examination, cooperate properly with the radiographer, adhere to all instructions to avoid casualties and yeah, you have a beautiful shot of your internal structures just for you to see and your doctor to comprehend.
